FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS(FAQ)
Driver Registration Requirements
To qualify as a GrabCar driver in Malaysia, applicants must meet the following criteria:
You must be a Malaysian citizen holding a valid Blue MyKad or MyTentera. Temporary identification or other forms of ID are not accepted for registration.
Applicants must be between 21 to 69 years old, ensuring they meet both the legal driving age and operational eligibility set by platform and regulatory requirements.
Your vehicle must be a 4-door car manufactured in 2012 or newer, ensuring it meets current safety, comfort, and e-hailing compliance standards set by authorities.
You must possess a valid Full Competent Driving License (CDL) Class D or DA. Provisional (P) licenses and Learner (L) licenses are strictly not accepted, as drivers are required to have full driving competency before onboarding.
Grab Vehicle Requirements
Grab offers multiple service types to cater to different passenger needs, and each category comes with its own fare structure and eligibility criteria. Vehicle acceptance is determined based on factors such as car model, age, condition, passenger comfort, and overall driver performance standards to ensure a consistent and safe ride experience.
Accepted Vehicle Criteria
To be eligible, vehicles must generally meet minimum platform and regulatory standards, including having 4 doors, acceptable seating capacity, and compliance with e-hailing regulations (e.g., JPJ, APAD). Vehicles must also be maintained in good condition, both mechanically and cosmetically.
Rejected Car Models
Certain vehicle models are not accepted due to factors such as age, safety limitations, size constraints, or outdated design standards. These include:
Perodua Kelisa, Perodua Viva, Perodua Kancil, Perodua Kembara, Perodua Kenari
Inokom Atos (2007–2010), Inokom Matrix
Renault Kangoo
Proton Wira, Proton Iswara, Proton Gen-2, Proton Savvy, Proton Satria Neo (2-door), Proton Waja (Sabah only)
Kia Spectra/Naza Spectra, Kia Sutera/Naza Sutera, Kia Picanto/Naza Picanto (2007–2010)
Honda CR-Z (2-door)
Hyundai Getz (2007–2010), Hyundai i10 (2007–2010)
Chevrolet Aveo (2007–2010)
Changan Era CM8
In addition, the following categories are not accepted:
- 2-door vehicles (due to passenger accessibility and safety)
- Taxi vehicles or vehicles with personal/commercial advertisements
If your car model is not listed above, it is generally considered acceptable, subject to meeting all other requirements.
Vehicle Age Requirement
Vehicles must typically be 15 years old or below (based on manufacturing year). This ensures compliance with safety standards and maintains ride quality. Existing driver-partners may continue using their currently registered vehicles until further notice, even if policies are updated.
Important Note
The acceptance, addition, or removal of vehicle models is subject to Grab’s discretion and may change over time based on regulatory updates or internal policy revisions. All decisions made by Grab are final and binding.
Grab Driver Flexibility
Grab operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, giving drivers full control over when they choose to work. Grab drivers can simply switch on the app at any time—whether early morning, peak hours, late night, or weekends—and start accepting ride requests based on their own availability.
This flexibility allows drivers to treat Grab as either a full-time income source or a part-time side hustle, depending on their personal goals. Many drivers in Malaysia choose to drive during high-demand periods (such as rush hours or weekends) to maximise earnings, while others prefer a more relaxed schedule.
Since its introduction in Malaysia in 2015, Grab has become one of the most popular part-time income options due to its low entry barrier, flexible working hours, and scalable earning potential—where income directly depends on how much time and effort the driver chooses to invest.
Sign up today and start earning with your car on your own terms.
Grab Driver Potential Income
Grab offers a flexible earning model where your income is directly tied to your time, effort, and strategy. On average, drivers in Malaysia can generate RM20–40 per hour, depending on demand, location, and the time you choose to drive.
During peak hours (morning rush, evening commute, weekends, and festive periods), demand is significantly higher—allowing drivers to earn more per hour with shorter waiting times between trips. With the right timing and consistency, many drivers are able to optimise their daily returns.
What makes Grab stand out is that there is no fixed income cap. Whether you’re looking to earn a few hundred ringgit weekly as a side income or build a more consistent full-time earning stream, it is entirely up to you. You decide when to go online, how long to drive, and how much you want to earn.
With incentives, bonuses, and continuous ride demand across urban areas, Grab provides a scalable income opportunity that fits your lifestyle.

GrabCar Driver Registration (Additional Requirements)
In line with regulations set by Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ) and Agensi Pengangkutan Awam Darat (APAD), all e-hailing drivers in Malaysia must comply with the following requirements:
From 12 October 2019 onwards, it is mandatory for all e-hailing drivers to hold a valid PSV (Public Service Vehicle) License under the Taxi/E-Hailing category. This license ensures that drivers have undergone the necessary training, medical screening, and background checks required to operate legally on the platform.
In addition, every vehicle used for Grab or any e-hailing service must be properly registered and compliant with regulatory standards. This includes having valid E-Hailing Insurance coverage, which protects both driver and passengers during trips, as well as an approved EVP (E-Hailing Vehicle Permit) issued by APAD.
For vehicles that meet the age requirement (typically 2 years and 6 months or older), a PUSPAKOM E-Hailing inspection is also required before the EVP can be approved. This inspection ensures the vehicle is roadworthy and safe for commercial passenger use.
Once you submit your registration through this website, our admin team will guide you step-by-step through the entire process—including applying for your PSV License, arranging JPJ medical check-up, PUSPAKOM inspection, and EVP submission—to ensure your application is completed smoothly and in full compliance with the latest regulations.

Driving a Non-Owned Vehicle (GrabCar)
Yes, you can drive for Grab even if the vehicle is not registered under your name. This flexibility allows you to use a family member’s car, a shared vehicle, or a privately owned car—as long as all regulatory and insurance requirements are properly fulfilled.
However, strict compliance is required to ensure both legal eligibility and insurance coverage while operating as an e-hailing driver.
Requirements:
The driver’s name must be clearly stated in the insurance cover note. This ensures that you are officially recognised as an authorised driver under the vehicle’s policy and are legally protected while carrying passengers.
The insurance policy must include coverage under “ALL DRIVER”, “ANY AUTHORISED DRIVER”, or “AUTHORISED DRIVER”. This is critical, as standard named-driver policies without proper endorsement may not provide coverage during e-hailing operations.
In addition to the above, the vehicle must still meet all Grab and regulatory requirements, including valid E-Hailing Insurance, EVP (E-Hailing Vehicle Permit), and PUSPAKOM inspection (if applicable). The registered vehicle owner must also consent to the vehicle being used for e-hailing purposes.
By ensuring these conditions are met, you can legally and safely operate a non-owned vehicle on Grab without any issues during verification, activation, or in the event of claims.
Important Notice: Personal Vehicle Requirement
Due to current EVP (E-Hailing Vehicle Permit) processing requirements and verification procedures by Agensi Pengangkutan Awam Darat, we are currently only able to process applications for drivers using their own personal/private vehicles.
This means the vehicle should be registered under the applicant’s name to ensure a smoother and faster approval process. Applications involving third-party ownership (such as family members or company-owned vehicles) may require additional documentation, stricter verification, or may face delays during EVP submission.
By using a personal vehicle, the EVP application can be processed more efficiently with fewer complications, reducing the risk of rejection and helping you get activated faster.
We strongly recommend preparing a personal vehicle that meets all Grab and regulatory requirements before proceeding with your registration to avoid unnecessary delays in your application.
Due to current EVP (E-Hailing Vehicle Permit) restrictions, we can only proceed with applications from drivers using their own personal/private vehicles. Applications involving third-party or non-owned vehicles will not be processed at this time until further notice.
